Brutal prices at Balaton Sound: the festival kicks off – PHOTOS
The 2023 Balaton Sound kicked off yesterday. Although there were a few clouds here and there, everyone started the festival in a great mood. The Hungarian tabloid Blikk took a look around on the first day to see what prices visitors can expect. Check them out below!
Sky-high food and drink prices at Balaton Sound
If you’re hungry at the festival, you’ll have to dig deep into your pockets: a burger costs HUF 5,800 (EUR 15,64). If you want extra meat, you’ll have to pay an extra HUF 1,500 (EUR 4.04), Blikk informs. It has long been known that festivals are not cheap. However, this year at Balaton Sound, the price of alcoholic beverages has also increased considerably. Although beer, an essential festival staple for many, is the cheapest alcoholic beverage, it’s still not exactly cheap: a half-litre draught version costs HUF 1890 (EUR 5,10), while a can costs HUF 1990 (EUR 5,37). But half a litre of water costs HUF 990 (EUR 2,67), and 1 dl of wine HUF 790 (EUR 2.13).
Festival ticket and accommodation
If you decide to visit the Balaton Festival for one day, the cheapest daily ticket is HUF 36-38,000 (EUR 97,07-102,47). If you want to enjoy the festival for several days, you can get a 3-day ticket for HUF 95,000 (EUR 256,17) or a 4-day ticket for HUF 105,000 (EUR 283,13).
Evidently, those who opt for the latter will also have to pay for accommodation. You can buy a camping ticket at the festival site for as “little” as HUF 11,900 (EUR 32,09). However, those who prefer more comfortable accommodation will have to pay around HUF 20-30,000 (EUR 53,93-80,89) per night, not including board.
As we reported before, new public transport season tickets have been introduced specifically for festivalgoers! Read details HERE.

For Hungarian earning average salary these are brutal prices. For international guests these are very moderate, even cheap. The amount of wine equivalent to a bottle (7,5dl) at a festival for 16 € is very cheap when comparing prices to festivals in the Nordic countries – even if it is the cheapest quality. Only water is cheaper as free clean water from the taps is always available in Nordic countries festivals.
