Nestlé Hungária is investing HUF 90 billion (EUR 231.5 million) to expand the capacity of its plant in Bük, in south-west Hungary, and will create 280 jobs in the process, Péter Szijjártó, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said on Thursday.
The pet food manufacturing plant in Bük uses sustainable resources to produce its electricity, Szijjártó said.
Szijjártó noted that Nestlé conducted a HUF 390 million training programme, which the government supported with a HUF 193 million grant, he said. The programme contributed to “the Hungarian economy’s technological progress,” he said.
Fully 90 percent of Nestlé’s products are exported, further raising Hungary’s trade balance, he said.
Hungary’s food industry employs 145,000 people, and its value jumped to HUF 6,500 billion by 2022, he added.
Plant head Péter Noszek said the Bük plant is scheduled to create over 500 jobs between 2020 and 2025, and has employees from 187 localities in the area.
