Fidesz: Brussels’ revenge politics makes mockery of Hungary
“Brussels’s revenge politics” is making a mockery of Hungary and the entire institutional system of the European Union, Balázs Hidvéghi, an MEP of ruling Fidesz, said in a video on Facebook on Tuesday.
Hidvéghi reacted to comments by Italian Social Democrat MEP Elisabetta Gualmini, who he said recently had called on the European Parliament to continue to pressure the European Commission not to give any funding to Hungary.
“They’re no longer even trying to hide their political blackmail,” Hidvéghi said. He said it was “completely clear that facts and the law no longer mean anything” to left-wing MEPs.
“This is blatant, cynical political blackmail,” he said, adding that its only aim was to “punish” Hungary for its political stances on the war, migration and child protection, and prevent the Hungarian people from gaining access to EU funds they were entitled to.
Hidvéghi also cited Gualmini as saying that though they had withdrawn the debate on the state of the rule of law in Hungary from the agenda, they would return to it later this month. He said this was a stalling tactic on the part of left-wing MEPs to keep applying pressure to Hungary.
“This is outrageous and unacceptable,” he said. “There’s no place for such political blackmail in European politics, which change is needed in Brussels, and that change can be brought about in next year’s EP elections.”

Wow, what projection. Politcal blackmail, says the party that is withholding confirmation of Sweden in NATO and money for the war in Ukraine. LIes, says the party that has found every excuse not to give teaches a living wage. The law means nothing, says the party that has put it’s finger in the eye to law every chance it gets. So much projection is seems these politicians are living in the Orban bubble.
I will keep it simple. when we signed up for EU Membership, Hungary complied with all the various Copenhagen criteria.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenhagen_criteria
It is understood by the EU Member States that Members should continue to adhere to these criteria. Our Politicians appear to be arguing that Hungary does not. I believe that is where the proverbial “rub” is.
Our Politicians are playing fast and loose with the Membership rules, and then blaming the EU when it calls them on this.
Sweden had plenty of time to join- many menmbers still don’t pay their share – the US still picks op most of the tab. Sweden is using the military to control the violence in the country- not long ago it was one of the least violent in world their membership would have been automatic.
The word rub, is also an abbreviation of the Russian Rouble.
How ironic.
Dream on Victor Orban, as long as your name is associated in dealings negotiations with the European Union, we Hungary, will get nothing.
Lorraine Joseph Franz, pray tell which on countries should Hungary declare war? Should war be declared on Russia, China, etc.. Is it preferable to let the Hungarian people freeze and starve due to lack of energy than import Russian energy (by the way what is your naive solution for Hungary’s energy need). Do you believe that Hungary should be complicit in the oppression, starvation and in killing Hungarians citizens that ended up in Ukraine through no fault of their own. Looking forward to seeing your solution.
Sweden as a country is a failure. Unless it solves its internal problem caused by illegal aliens, Sweden should not join NATO. Sweden’s internal difficulties are tantamount to a civil war.
Dear mariavontheresa, please refrain from using derogatory language towards other human beings (“illegal aliens”) when commenting under our articles. Thank you.
mariavontheresa – case of “sniffing” to much Maple Leaf.
Ms. Hetzmann, people that filled out necessary paperwork at Hungarian Consulate and were given permission to enter by the government are the only legal immigrants. People that cross a border without permission, in other words do so illegally; that makes them illegal aliens. Another correct word, according to the Oxford Dictionary is the word criminal. It is important to use the correct adjective or word at all times to avoid confusion. The English language allows clear depiction of all events.
Dear mariavontheresa, definitely. The English language offers quite clear expressions. One such you could use in this case is “illegal migrants” which perfectly describes the group of people (!) you are referring to. Thank you for your input.
Dear Ms. Hetzmann: I am forwarding a copy of a statement made yesterday at a Congressional hearing “FBI Director Wray Confirms Illegal Alien Terrorists”. My words were just meant to be specific rather than insulting. Alien is a commonly used word in North America. Wish you all the best.
Dear mariavontheresa, I see, thank you for the clarification. I admit that I was not familiar with this term being used in these specific scenarios. I apologise if I was rude. Thank you for reading us.
