Taxi service in Budapest to change from January 2024
According to today’s decision of the Municipal Assembly of Budapest, the Taxi Regulation will be amended. The provision of taxi services will once again be under a single authority, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) said.
As of January 2024, BKK will once again act as the capital’s transport operator, responsible for all municipal tasks related to taxi companies and taxis, turizmus.com reports.
As a result, the administration and regulation of taxi services will be “simpler and more transparent”, as the tasks related to permits and prior certificates, as well as the control and the establishment and operation of taxi stations will be brought together in one place, BKK said in its statement.
In addition, they added, regulation in all these areas will become clearer, thus simplifying administration. Previously, taxi services were divided between two Budapest companies, BKK and Budapest Közút. However, the amendment adopted by the Municipal Assembly on Wednesday centralises the activities concerned.
As of 1 January 2024, the customer service on Asztalos Sándor Road will continue to operate without disruption, but as part of BKK.
