Newest list of the top 10 wealthiest Hungarians out
The annual release of Forbes’ list of Hungary’s wealthiest individuals has brought forth some noteworthy changes in 2023.
According to Index, eight billionaires make their debut or re-enter after a hiatus. The financial elite of the country sees a reshuffling of the top ranks. You can check out the full list of the 50 richest Hungarians on Forbes. Now, let’s delve into the top ten wealthiest Hungarians of 2023:
1. Lőrinc Mészáros
Estimated wealth of HUF 591.3 billion (EUR 1.5 billion).
Claiming the top spot once again is Lőrinc Mészáros, whose wealth signifies a remarkable comeback. Having slipped from the pinnacle in the previous year, Mészáros experienced a surge of more than HUF 150 billion (EUR 392 million) in his wealth. Opus Global PLC’s success and undisclosed additions to his portfolio contributed significantly to this resurgence.
2. Sándor Csányi
Estimated wealth of HUF 573.7 billion (EUR 1.49 billion).
In the second position is Sándor Csányi. Unlike many peers, Csányi’s wealth is predominantly rooted in agriculture, with Bonafarm playing a pivotal role. The Bonafarm group’s impressive valuation in September underscores Csányi’s diversified portfolio in this sector.
3. Zsolt Felcsuti
Estimated wealth of HUF 442.9 billion (EUR 1.16 billion).
Securing the third position is Zsolt Felcsuti. The owner of MPF Holding, Felcsuti’s success is evident in the group’s achievements, including the completion of Europe’s most modern radiator and cutting-edge factories. Notably, these accomplishments were achieved without resorting to borrowing.
4. Tibor Veres
Estimated wealth of HUF 438.2 billion (EUR 1.15 billion).
Tibor Veres takes the fourth spot. The Dayton Invest group, under his helm, holds a substantial stake in Wing, a key player in the Hungarian real estate market. A 40% increase in revenues in 2022, fueled by strategic acquisitions, showcases the group’s prowess in this sector.
5. György Gattyán
Estimated wealth of HUF 424.8 billion (EUR 1.11 billion).
György Gattyán claims the fifth position. The success of Docler Holding, based in Luxembourg, continues to soar, primarily attributed to the erotic content provider Jasmin.com. With an annual turnover of EUR 449 million in 2022, the group remains a significant player in the market.
6. László Szíjj
Estimated wealth of HUF 281.3 billion (EUR 735 million).
Despite facing a slowdown in wealth growth, László Szíjj secures a notable position. Transparency International’s data positions him as the second-largest tender winner in Hungary. Despite challenges, including credit card fraud and business acquisitions, Szíjj’s wealth has increased by 23% in a year.
7. Dániel Jellinek
Estimated wealth of HUF 249.5 billion (EUR 652 million).
Claiming the seventh spot is Dániel Jellinek. Jellinek’s Indotek group has significant real estate interests and financing relationships across twelve European markets.
8. Sándorné Demján
Estimated wealth of HUF 225.6 billion (EUR 589 million).
Sándorné Demján and her family have repositioned Gránit Pólus, one of Hungary’s largest property managers, since the founder’s demise in 2018. Embracing moderate profit targets, less risk, and stable growth, they plan to float Westend on the stock exchange.
9. Gábor Széles
Estimated wealth of HUF 206.8 billion (EUR 540 million).
Gábor Széles began his business journey in the 1980s with computer parts distribution. Diversifying into media and partnering with companies like Astrasun Solar Plc, his ventures continue to evolve.
10. István Garancsi
Estimated wealth of HUF 197.3 billion (EUR 515 million).
Closing the top ten is István Garancsi. His key interest, Market Építő, is pivotal in the structural works of the CATL battery factory in Debrecen, part of Hungary’s largest-ever domestic investment.
