Latest LIST: Hungarian passport among the strongest in the world
Nomad Capitalist has compiled a list of the world’s passports, ranking them from strongest to weakest, based on five criteria. The Swiss passport turned out to be the strongest in the world. The Hungarian one is also quite highly ranked.
According to tax and immigration consultancy Nomad Capitalist, the strength of passports goes beyond visa-free travel. As CNBC reports, the company has produced a weighted annual index that analyses five criteria:
- Visa-free travel 50%
- Taxation of citizens 20%
- Perception 10%
- Dual citizenship 10%
- Personal freedom 10%
According to the 2024 Nomad Passport Index, Switzerland topped this year’s ranking, followed by Ireland and Portugal.
The performance of the United Arab Emirates stands out on the list in a bad way. The UAE was ranked number one in 2023; however, this year, it has slipped back to 6th place, tied with countries such as the Netherlands, Germany and New Zealand, Portfolio reports.
According to the report, Bulgaria is another country to keep an eye on: its travel document has risen from 42nd in the index to 32nd in two years. The main reason is that it is scheduled to join the Schengen area at the end of March.
Hungarian passport on the list
According to the list,
Hungary is tied for 24th place
with countries such as Romania, Austria, Monaco, Singapore, Croatia and Cyprus. If all countries with the same number of points are ranked together, Hungary is in 10th place.
