Most Hungarian shops will be closed for two days
On Saturday, brace yourself for an apocalypse if you want to go shopping. Similarly to the previous years, shops and supermarkets will be closed due to Pentecost on the 19th and 20th of May.
Hungarian shops to close
As Economx also pointed out, this year, Pentecost will be on the 19th and 20th of May, meaning many shops will follow their typical closure pattern. It’s advisable to do your grocery shopping on Saturday the 18th to avoid any inconvenience caused by the two-day closure, which is likely to stir up quite a bit of commotion. Hungarian shops will be open as usual on the 18th and will reopen on the 21st. Here are some of the affected retail chains:
- Tesco,
- Auchan,
- Lidl,
- Aldi,
- Spar,
- Penny,
- CBA,
- Coop,
- Reál.

Since most people shop at the end of pay periods, that could be inconvenient if it coincides. But we all learned thru the past few years & our parents learned thru the revolution that good housekeepers always have the bisics on hand. If not in the pantry, then in the garden or from the piac. Hard for students who live in tiny dormitories but I assume that 2 days would not be like starvation. Many young people like to do cleanses, many middle aged need to cut back for health reasons too. A bit of suffering brings one closer to God. Always try to look at the good in every event.
A good time to fast.
