Douwe Egberts Closes Factory
According to Origo.hu news portal, by the end of the year Douwe Egberts Zrt Hungary will cease production in Budapest and will let go 184 employees due to the parent company – DE Master Blenders 1753 – realignment.
DE Master Blenders is harmonising its organisational structure to build a more sustainable operation, the subsidiary added.
Origo.hu said, Douwe Egberts currently employs 300 people in the Budapest factory. This realignment affects 162 people; the other 22 employees have different roles at the company. Workers and the National Labour Office were told about the realignment on Friday, April 11.
According to the company’s official statement, Douwe Egberts Zrt directorate has gathered an employee consultation in accordance with legal regulations, to review the possibilities and to reduce the decision’s negative impacts. Douwe Egberts Hungary Zrt. is one of the leading members of the hot-beverage market in the domestic market with its most well-known brands such as the Douwe Egberts Espresso, Omnia, Karaván coffee, Paloma coffee, and the Pickwick and Sir Morton tea families.
The Budapest factory of the company deals with roasting, coffee and tea packaging, than its products are exported to many European countries.
After the shutting down, Hungary will remain active as a commercial centre.
