Tragedy: Elderly couple killed in late-night house fire in Budapest

A tragic fire claimed the lives of an elderly couple in Budapest’s 16th District late on Friday night.

According to Hungary’s disaster management authority, emergency services received reports shortly before midnight that a property on Gábor Áron Street had caught fire. The blaze engulfed the brick house and several surrounding sheds with a combined area of around 50 square metres.
The flames quickly spread to two parked cars and a scooter in the garden before firefighters managed to bring the situation under control. Three fire engines and their crews from Budapest’s fire department were dispatched to the scene, and it took them more than an hour to extinguish the fire.
Bodies of elderly couple found
During the operation, firefighters discovered the bodies of an elderly man and woman who lived at the property. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released further details about the victims or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
