Wizz Air’s brand-new premium service will also be available from Budapest

While Wizz Air recently announced it would abandon its ambitious expansion plans, the airline is now preparing to take a step that its CEO, József Váradi, once declared they would never introduce. In fact, Váradi had even criticised rival airlines for offering such services. However, driven by growing demand from business travellers, a test period now seems imminent.

New premium services from Wizz Air

The travel experience on Wizz Air flights is about to undergo a dramatic transformation. At a London press conference, the Hungarian low-cost carrier unveiled a revolutionary idea previously dismissed and criticised by CEO József Váradi himself. Yet remarkably, two new premium options—Wizz Class and Wizz Play—will be introduced on a trial basis. If successful, they will become permanent offerings, according to Utazómajom, a Hungarian air travel news outlet.

From December, passengers will be able to fly business class on Wizz Air’s Airbus aircraft. This means guaranteed seats in the front row with the middle seat left empty, offering abundant space and a disturbance-free journey.

Initially, this service will be available from only five airports: Budapest, Bucharest, Rome, London, and Warsaw. Pricing details were not shared in London but will be announced within weeks.

The trial is motivated by rising business travel demand, as explained at the press conference.

Intranet onboard

Wizz Play, the other trial service, offers onboard Wi-Fi and an entertainment system. Unfortunately, this will not be available from Budapest, only in the United Kingdom and on just five planes there. According to travel sources, this service will be quite limited—essentially an intranet-based, in-house developed platform through which passengers can stream films and series from Wizz Air’s media library, order food and drinks on their own devices, and send instant messages, for example via WhatsApp. Streaming from platforms like Netflix will definitely not be possible.

This service will also be paid, though pricing has not yet been disclosed during the trial phase.

Utazómajom suggests that Wizz Air is stepping boldly into a new era: it remains primarily a low-cost carrier but is moving closer to the premium business models offered by traditional airlines.

  1. All I need is:
    1. Ensure anyone who is intoxicated not be allowed to board the plane, and
    2. Provide decent Internet for the duration of the flight.
