Trump sends clear message to Hungarian voters on Orbán and April elections

President Donald Trump assured Viktor Orbán of his unwavering support for his bid for re-election as prime minister.
Trump calls Orbán true friend and would like to continue to work with him
Trump devoted an entire Truth Social post to his “true friend”, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The Hungarian leader was the first major politician to back Trump in 2015, when he led the polls but was not yet the Republican nominee. Their bond has since proved unbreakable.
Yet Orbán returned almost empty-handed from his November visit to Washington. He claimed a handshake deal for an American financial shield for Hungary; Trump denied it. Otherwise, they struck only vague promises, most unlikely to materialise.

Yesterday, Trump penned a heartfelt Truth Social tribute to Orbán, lauding his strength, power and phenomenal results as a tireless fighter for jobs, national security, trade and stopping illegal immigration. He hailed Washington-Budapest ties at new heights—and gave Orbán his full endorsement.

Peace in Ukraine would be reality if it depended solely on Trump, says FM Szijjártó
Peace in Ukraine would already be a reality if it depended solely on US President Donald Trump, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Thursday, citing recent agreements as evidence of progress towards peace.
Szijjártó highlighted two key developments: a Russian-Ukrainian prisoner exchange agreement, brokered with US mediation, enabling hundreds of detainees to return to their families, and the resumption of high-level military dialogue between the US and Russia. “If peace depended solely on Donald Trump and his administration, Ukraine would already be at peace,” he said.

“It is clear that when the US and Russia maintain good relations, central Europe is safer,” Szijjártó said. “This is a step forward for global security, and we welcome it,” he added. He also called on Brussels and Western Europe to stop undermining peace efforts and urged support for the restored US-Russia military dialogue.
