Wizz Air flight from Budapest to Valencia makes emergency landing

A Wizz Air flight travelling from Budapest to Valencia was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Milan after a passenger fell seriously ill mid-flight.
According to the aviation-focused Facebook page Tudásmorzsák a repülésről (Aviation Facts), the crew declared an emergency during the journey, prompting the aircraft to divert from its planned route. The plane landed safely in Milan, where paramedics were already waiting on the ground.
The affected passenger was handed over to emergency services for medical treatment.
Rare use of 7700 emergency signal
The post indicates that the pilots used the 7700 transponder code, which signals a general emergency. This alert gives aircraft priority handling and allows for the fastest possible assistance upon landing.
Aviation experts note that this code is not commonly used for routine medical incidents, suggesting that the situation may have required urgent care.

Flight continued after short delay
After the passenger was transferred to medical staff, the aircraft reportedly prepared to continue its journey to Valencia. No further details have been released about the passenger’s condition.
While such diversions may sound dramatic, in-flight medical emergencies are relatively common. At Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport, flights are reportedly interrupted almost daily for similar reasons.
Wizz Air, among other airlines, follows strict safety protocols in these cases, prioritising passenger health above all else.
