Foreign minister meets Chinese official over Budapest-Belgrade railway project
Budapest, May 30 (MTI) – Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on Monday met Wang Xiaotao, deputy director of China’s National Development and Reform Commission, to discuss issues around the Budapest-Belgrade railway refurbishment project, in Budapest.
Parties at the talks agreed that the legal framework for the scheme would be “fully in line with European regulations”, said a statement from the foreign ministry.
According to the statement, “the project will significantly improve Hungary’s position in the competition of central European trade routes to western Europe”. “These goods arrive by sea from China to Greece. Therefore Hungary will retain its leading position in the China-central Europe race,” the document said.
