Netflix prices jump in Hungary: subscribers face double-digit increase!

Change language:
Hungarian users of Netflix are set to pay significantly more for their subscriptions, after the streaming giant introduced a fresh round of price hikes exceeding 10%. The increase, communicated via email to subscribers, will take effect from the next billing cycle.
New monthly fees: what has changed?
According to information published on the company’s website and reported by HVG, all subscription tiers have become more expensive:
- The Basic (HD) plan rises from HUF 2,900 to HUF 3,200 (EUR 8.3)
- The Standard plan increases from HUF 4,000 to HUF 4,500 (EUR 11.6)
- The Premium plan climbs from HUF 5,100 to HUF 5,700 (EUR 14.7)
In addition, the fee for adding extra users outside a household has also gone up, from HUF 1,200 to HUF 1,400 (EUR 3.6).
Existing subscribers are expected to encounter the new prices from April, depending on their individual billing dates, while new customers are already signing up under the updated tariffs.
Interestingly, the company’s notification avoids explicitly mentioning a “price increase,” referring instead to a more neutral “price change.”
Another rise after 2024 adjustment
This marks the latest in a series of increases, following a previous adjustment in autumn 2024. This means that “digital household costs” in Hungary are creeping up, as streaming and online services steadily become more expensive.
How affordable is Netflix in Hungary?
Despite the increase, Hungary remains somewhere in the middle globally when it comes to affordability.
Based on earlier international comparisons reported by Haszon at the end of 2025, a subscriber in Hungary needs to work roughly 2 hours and 5 minutes at the median wage to pay for a monthly Standard subscription. This places the country close to regional peers such as Slovakia and Romania (both 1 hour 57 minutes).
By contrast, in wealthier countries like Norway, the same subscription can be earned in just 24 minutes of work, while in Luxembourg and Iceland it takes under half an hour.
At the other extreme, in countries such as Rwanda, a single month of Netflix can require more than 35 hours of work.
A growing global platform
With more than 300 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix seems to dominate the streaming market. However, as subscription costs rise across multiple regions, affordability and competition are becoming increasingly important factors for users, and understandably so.

I started this as a simple side hustle, and last month I made a little over $6,137 just working a few hours a day from my phone. If you want to check out how it works, the website has all the details.
