Hungary’s weather set for dramatic shift this coming week with frosty nights

Change language:

A cold front will sweep into Hungary on Easter Monday, bringing strong winds and a sharp chill, with daytime highs dropping to between 10°C and 15°C by midweek and frost returning to mornings. Gusty winds will persist throughout, while the chance of rain rises towards the weekend, according to a forecast from HungaroMet Zrt., released to MTI on Sunday.

Significant weather change this week

On Monday, cloudier conditions will linger over the southern and southwestern thirds of the country, as well as the northeastern border regions, while ample sunshine is expected elsewhere. Isolated showers may occur. The wind will veer northwesterly, strengthening in many areas and turning gusty in places, though southwestern spots will see mostly brisk gusts. Highs will range from 16°C to 22°C, the Hungarian News Agency wrote.

Tuesday should see clouds thinning even in the southwestern third, yielding generally clear, sunny weather nationwide, save for intermittent cloudiness in the northeast—though rain remains unlikely there. Northerly to northwesterly winds will freshen outside the southwest, occasionally strengthening. Overnight lows will hover between 0°C and 7°C, milder by a few degrees in cloudy southwestern areas but with possible light frost in sheltered northern and northeastern hollows. Daytime highs: 14°C to 19°C.

Wednesday promises mostly sunny skies, though cumulus clouds will form mainly east of the Danube, occasionally interrupting the sunshine. No rain is expected. Northerly winds will be brisk widely, turning strong in the northeast. Early mornings will see 0°C to 6°C, chillier in wind-sheltered northern valleys. Afternoon highs: 10°C to 15°C.

Election day not to be too warm

Thursday will feature plentiful sunshine alongside daytime cumulus clouds, but a few showers cannot be ruled out in eastern Hungary. Northerly winds remain brisk, with strong gusts in spots. Overnight lows: -1°C to 5°C, potentially lower in clear, calm, frost-prone areas. Highs: 9°C to 15°C.

Friday brings more cloud, though the sun should still emerge for several hours. The risk of rain or showers edges up slightly, least so in the east and northeast. Northerly winds stay brisk, with gusts in places. Lows: -4°C to 5°C; highs: 7°C to 14°C.

Saturday looks mostly cloudy with sunny intervals and cumulus, but rain or showers may affect parts of the country. Northerly to northeasterly winds remain brisk, with occasional strong gusts. Lows: -3°C to 6°C; highs: 7°C to 15°C.

Sunday will be largely cloudy with occasional brighter spells, and rain or showers possible in places. Northeasterly to easterly winds will be brisk, sometimes strong. Lows: -3°C to 6°C; highs: 8°C to 15°C.
