Half a million tonnes of oil and HIMARS systems: Hungary struck a huge deal with the United States

Hungary has secured a series of wide-ranging agreements with the United States covering energy, defence and advanced technology, following a recent high-level visit by JD Vance. The deals signal a strengthening of economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
According to 24.hu, one of the most significant elements is an energy agreement involving Hungarian oil giant MOL Group, which will purchase approximately 510,000 tonnes of crude oil from US suppliers. The deal is valued at around USD 500 million and aims to diversify Hungary’s energy sources.

Nuclear ambitions and healthcare innovation
Hungary is also exploring nuclear energy cooperation. State-owned MVM Group has signed preliminary agreements with major US firms, including Westinghouse Electric Company, GE Vernova and Holtec International. The partnership focuses on assessing small modular reactor (SMR) technology, with the potential for up to ten reactors worth as much as USD 20 billion.
Separately, GE Healthcare has partnered with Semmelweis University to establish an AI-driven oncology centre in Budapest, aiming to enhance cancer diagnosis and treatment.
JD Vance abruptly cuts Budapest visit short after extension plans: what happened?
Digital upgrades and defence expansion
In the digital sector, Microsoft has agreed to support the Hungarian government with cloud-based infrastructure, while also collaborating with Gábor Dénes University to provide AI and digital training for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Defence cooperation has also intensified. Hungary plans to acquire HIMARS rocket systems worth USD 700 million, enhancing interoperability with NATO forces. Hungarian firm 4iG will work with L3Harris Technologies to integrate advanced communications into the system.
Additional agreements involving Northrop Grumman point to future satellite development projects, underlining Hungary’s growing ambitions in both defence and space technology.

Wait. I thought our Politicians position was that the only effective way to get oil in Hungary is to buy from Russia?
Re acquisition of HIMARS launchers – arent we a bit late to this party? I believe already in 2024, 20 plus countries ordered these (Ukraine war and everything – and now Iran). To be delivered in 2035?
Trump has renewed his threat to Tehran and is considering a massive military escalation if Iran does not behave as he wishes.
According to Der Spiegel, Trump has called on European partners to commit military forces in the Strait of Hormuz. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte informed European capitals that US President Donald Trump expects concrete commitments within the next few days for the deployment of warships or other military capabilities from Europe. Several European diplomats who were briefed after the meeting between Rutte and Trump said that Trump’s demand amounted to an ultimatum, Der Spiegel reports.
Just so you know, for those who don’t know what NATO’s mission is:
NATO is a DEFENSIVE ALLIANCE of 32 European and North American member states, dedicated to the collective protection of their respective territories and pursuing the goal of global political security and stability.
It is not NATO’s role to intervene in a war of aggression launched by the US and Israel. That cannot be a NATO mission, as it would violate the statutes. Individual states are, of course, free to assist the US. But, as mentioned, not within the framework of NATO.
That’s why the other NATO partners (Italy etc.) say they will only provide assistance for a mission legally authorized by the UN.
Of course, Trump couldn’t care less.
1. Elections are coming…
2. VO in bed with the Russians… very worry sum.
3. US putting its nose into a sovereign countries elections.
4. And now VO wishes to distance the country from EU… How messed up can you be.
5. Our conclusion, VO must go Hungary deserves much better.

US President Donald Trump didn’t just criticize NATO for its lack of support in the Iran war. Australia, Japan, and South Korea also came under fire during a press conference.
The US has stationed 45,000 troops in South Korea, Trump declared, “to protect us from Kim Jong-un.” He then elaborated on how well he gets along with the North Korean dictator: “Did you notice that he said some very nice things about me? He used to call Joe Biden mentally deficient. He said he was a mentally deranged person. He was so mean to Joe Biden. It was terrible. But he likes me, Trump. And did you notice how well things are going with North Korea? It’s very good.”
Is there any level of insanity that can be taken any further?
The entire UN, NATO, and Iran affair is DTs tortured imagination.
Make an imaginary situation come to life because… I am the bully for, and I do as I please, and illegally so.
Ships are already passing through Hormuz. UN should be more up to speed, and more powerful with an international military force when needed.
As for NATO, to never be manipulated. As for DT, he caused this mess, he is to get the present US out of it, and alone. He is not one to preach to others on… how to do anything… period.
Totally debunks the ‘in bed with the Russians’ theory with the US suppling their military hardware to the party.
Not at all. Trump has an ideological alliance with fellow fascist Orban. Trump is ambivalent towards the Russians and he has long had the idea that he can make some kind of “deal” with Putin and turn them against the Chinese. Of course, this is a fantasy in Orban’s infantile mind and Trump has been withdrawing US support from Europe to the point of openly discussing withdrawal from NATO and pulling US troops out of Europe. Trump is trying to pump up Orban. This does not debunk anything.
3 days before the Election’s that he is going to loose he is still making corrupt deals, at least wait after the election and if you win keep on with your corruption…
There is nothing in this announcement about the US buying anything from Hungary. Orban committed Hungary to spend billions of dollars of money Hungary doesn’t have to buy US goods and this somehow is a great benefit to Hungary? It’s the US that benefits from this. Hungary could have been buying cheaper oil from Gulf states but someone needed to launch a war on Iran.
