Euro2016 – Hungary squad arrives in France
The MLSZ press release said, the Hungarian national team arrived in France early Tuesday afternoon, exactly a week before they take to the field in their opening group match against Austria in Bordeaux.
After setting off from Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport late in the morning to an enthusiastic send-off from fans and airport workers bedecked in Hungary flags, Bernd Storck’s Hungary side arrived in Nice shortly after lunchtime before driving straight to Mougins, their base until Friday, where they held their first training session on French soil on Tuesday evening.
At a pre-flight press conference held in Budapest, head coach Bernd Storck told reporters “We’d like to show that we didn’t qualify for this tournament without justification. We have three tough matches ahead of us, but we are ready. We have prepared thoroughly. The team is in good condition both physically and mentally”. Promising that the team would do their very best, Storck also said that participation at the European Championship was a great opportunity for Hungary to reappear on the international football map.
Primarily consisting of physical exercises, yesterday evening’s training session also included tactical elements such as possession play and finishing practice for the forwards. From now on each day will consist of two training sessions as the team gets down to the business of preparing in earnest for the match against Austria next week.
