Hungarian, Ukrainian politicians meet in W Ukraine to discuss bilateral issues

Budapest, July 2 (MTI) – Lawmakers and politicians of Hungary and Ukraine met in Felsőszinevér (Synevyrska Poljana) in western Ukraine on Saturday at an open university event where current issues in bilateral relations were discussed.

Addressing the event, Zsolt Németh, the head of Hungarian parliament’s foreign affairs committe, said Hungary believes that the conflict in Ukraine should be seen in the context of “the birth of a nation” and that Hungary supports this most important issue for Ukraine, which is becoming a nation. It is important for Ukraine how Hungary and other neighbours regard this process, he said.

Hungarian foreign policy has recently focused its attention on solidarity gestures, such as organising holidays for Ukrainian children. These policies should be continued at the highest level, he said.

Hungary is working to build up Central Europe and would like to see Ukraine play a role in this, he said. Hungary’s interest is that Ukraine should have stability, economic development and democracy for all, including ethnic Hungarians, Németh added.
