The Best Photography Exhibitions Of The Year Are Coming To Budapest

A travelling exhibition called Magnum Contact Sheets by the well-known Magnum Photos photo agency will be exhibited in the Robert Capa Center in Budapest between the 27th May and 24th August. Moreover, their first group show namely the Magnum’s First will be displayed in Mai Manó Ház Gallery.

The Magnum Contact Sheets exhibition shows how the most famous photographs were made. Moreover, the exhibition presents the birth of the images and illustrates the photo selection process as well. There will also be an interesting sequential of photos on the contact sheets as they were in the original film rolls. Visitors can track the birth of each classical and famous photo from moment to moment, thus visitors can also discover those photo scenes which were taken before and after the famous picture.

As part of the unique exhibition, visitors can see about 70 contact sheets together with the final and famous photos that were taken by the amazing MAGNUM photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Jim Goldberg, Alec Soth, Paolo Pellegrin and many others. On the wall of the exhibition hall iconic photos will also be displayed about historical events: photos about the student rebellion in Paris in 1968, pictures about the Landing in Normandy as well as the terror attacks in 11, September. Furthermore, there will be portrait imagines as well about Che Guevara, The Beatles and Miles Davis.

The Magnum’s First group exhibition’s venue is the Mai Manó Ház Gallery in Budapest that can be seen from next week. These pictures were taken by the legendary photographers of the Magnum Photos Agency (such as Robert Capa, Erns Haas, Erich Lessing, Jean Marquis, Henri Cartier-Bresson) and were locked in a suitcase in the basement of the French Cultural Institute of Innsbruck in the last 50 years. The great photohistorical works were discovered a few years ago and these pictures can be seen in Hungary now. The 83 black and white pictures have been the first group shows of the photo agency and can be seen at the first floor of the Mai Manó Ház Gallery. These pictures are one of the most dominant works in the history of photography. Among others, photos of the last days and the funeral of Gandhi and Jean Marquis’s pictures about Hungary will also be displayed. Interestingly, not only will the pictures be showed but the suitcases – in which these works were hidden – can also be seen.

Moreover, in another exhibition hall all those photos will be showed in a slideshow that were taken between 1947 and 2014 by the MAGNUM’s photographers during their visit in Hungary. Therefore the everyday life of the Hungarians will be exhibited from the end of the Second World War until now.
