All Hungarian passports are now biometric, says authority
Budapest, September 2 (MTI) – All valid Hungarian passports are now biometric, the Central Office for Administrative and Electronic Public Services (KEKKH) said on Friday.
The issuance of biometric passports started 10 years ago, on August 29, 2006, the office said in a statement. These passports include a chip with the holder’s photograph on it, which is biometric information, and other data which is also shown printed in the document.
It has taken ten years for all older passports to be replaced by new ones, during which time the KEKKH has issued 2,289,054 passports.
The most obvious change in the passports introduced ten years ago was that their covers are burgundy red instead of blue. Only diplomatic passports remain green on the outside.
Passports issued since June 28, 2009 also include the fingerprint of the passport-holder, the authority said.
