Jobbik urges compensation for crime victims

Budapest (MTI) – The opposition Jobbik party has urged the government to ensure “more efficient compensation” to the victims of violent crimes.

Gábor Staudt, deputy group leader of Jobbik, spoke at a press conference marking the 10th anniversary of a lynching in Olaszliszka, in north-eastern Hungary, and said that the state should take a larger responsibility “in cases when it is unable to protect citizens”.

Statudt insisted that in most cases victims will not even receive the compensation established by a court because the money cannot be collected from perpetrators or it will not cover legal cost. He also noted that his party had earlier proposed that compensation of the victims should precede settling legal expenses.
