PM’s Press Office refuses to confirm Orbán meeting with Theresa May
Budapest, November 2 (MTI) – The Prime Minister’s Press Office on Wednesday refused to confirm a planned meeting between Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and British counterpart Theresa May reported by Brussels news portal Politico.
“We currently have nothing to be announced in connection with foreign visits”, head of the PM’s Press Office Bertalan Havasi told MTI.
Politico said on Tuesday that May is scheduled to meet Orbán in London next week.
Politico cited news portal BuzzFeed News, according to which “senior EU and European officials have privately accused May of seeking closer ties with Orbán in an attempt to divide and conquer the EU”.
Answering a question at the press conference, foreign minister Szijjártó said that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was scheduled to visit London next week for talks with his British counterpart. The minister confirmed Hungary’s interest in the United Kingdom and the European Union concluding a reciprocally beneficial agreement on Brexit. Hungary insists on protecting the rights of Hungarians working in Britain and takes a stand for maintaining as free and flexible investment, trade and economic cooperation as possible, Szijjártó said.
