Bird flu detected at SE Hungary turkey farm
Budapest (MTI) – Bird flu has been detected by the National Food Safety Office (Nebih) at a turkey farm in Békés County in southeast Hungary, the farm ministry told MTI on Thursday.
All 9,000 turkeys at the farm are to be culled in an effort to prevent the spread of the deadly virus, the ministry said. The farm will receive compensation from the state, the ministry added.
The outbreak has been identified as the H5N8 strain, which to date has never been detected in humans, the ministry said.
