Bosnia-Herzegovina house speaker visits Hungary

Budapest, November 15 (MTI) – Hungary will continue to help the western Balkans’ European integration because the region is crucial for Hungary’s security policy interests, Parliamentary Speaker László Kövér said on Tuesday after talks with Mladen Bosic, his Bosnia-Herzegovina counterpart. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó held talks with Bosic on the topic of the Balkan country’s European integration.

Kövér told a press conference that European integration cannot be complete until there are countries in the western Balkans that are not full members. Integration is also key for solving internal problems of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Bosic said that they appreciate Hungary’s friendship. He said there are no open issues between the two countries’ parliaments, however, economic relations could still be improved.

The ministry said in a statement that Szijjártó received Mladen Bosic, and both officials welcomed the determined lobbying by the Visegrad Group of the European Council, which has accepted Bosnia-Herzegovina’s membership request and instructed the European Commission to make related preparatory steps.

Szijjártó said that Hungary is a committed supporter of Bosnia’s European integration processes, the success of which is in Hungary’s economic, security and strategic interests.

He welcomed the launch at the start of April of a direct flight between Budapest and Sarajevo.

Both countries together request that Croatia should do everything to ensure that the necessary investments are put in place so that construction of a motorway between Budapest and Sarajevo can go ahead.
