Hungary Consumer Prices Start to Rise Again
Budapest, August 12 (MTI) – Consumer prices in Hungary edged up 0.1 percent year-on-year in July, rising after three consecutive months of declines, data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Tuesday show.
Consumer prices dropped 0.3 percent in June and by 0.1 percent in both May and April.
Analysts had put July CPI around the zero mark.
In a month-on-month comparison, consumer prices were up 0.2 percent.
The year-on-year headline figure was lifted by higher prices for services, fuel, alcohol and tobacco.
Compared to the previous month, July prices were up 0.9 percent for services and 0.7 percent in the category of goods that includes vehicle fuel. Food prices fell by 0.6 percent and the price of alcohol and tobacco slipped 0.1 percent. Prices for consumer durables and household energy were flat. Clothing prices fell 2.4 percent as retailers cleared out their summer inventories.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile fuel and food prices, was 2.6 percent year-on-year.
