Dozens of Companies Ready to Hire Laid Off Nokia Workers
Budapest, August 19 (MTI) – Dozens of companies are ready to hire workers laid off at Nokia’s plant in northern Hungary, daily Nepszabadsag said today.
More than 50 companies have applied to participate in a job fair organised by the local trade union in the second week of September, union leader Zoltan Laszlo confirmed to the paper.
Without naming companies, Laszlo said automotive and electronics firms have indicated their intention to hire hundreds of workers.
Microsoft, which recently acquired Nokia’s handset business, announced about a month ago that it would shut down the plant in Komarom, near Hungary’s border with Slovakia, laying off 1,829 workers, including 680 Slovak citizens.
The plant will finally close on November 30.
