Stunning VIDEO of spring snowflake bloom in beautiful Hungarian forest
Csáfordjánosfa is located in Győr-Moson-Sopron county in Hungary and is one of the most famous dagger forests in the country. Between February and March, the area is a magnet for hikers. No wonder, as up to ten million flowers can be blooming at the same time.
Millions of spring snowflakes bloom in early spring
The Fertő-Hanság National Park is unique in the country in that it is probably the most abundant in Hungary. The exact number is difficult to determine, but experts estimate that at the peak of flowering, hikers will be impressed by the sight of millions of peat bogs, which are a delight to walk among the protected plants. The spectacle of a continuous field of flowers is enchanting, awakening a love and respect for nature.
The twenty-one-hectare Csáfordjánosfa forest has many outstanding botanical values and has been managed by the Fertő-Hanság National Park Directorate since 1999. The four-kilometre Spring Snowflake Nature Trail (Tavaszi tőzike tanösvény) has been a protected area for almost 60 years.

The spring snowflake
The protected spring snowflake can easily be confused with spring snowdrops, which are similar in size and habitat requirements but are easily recognisable by a few distinguishing features. The flowers are broader, with green or yellowish spots on the tips of the bracts, but in the case of the spring snowdrop, the outer bracts are white with green markings on the inner tips. It is a perennial herbaceous plant, growing in hornbeam-oak woods, groves and wet meadows, and reaching 10-30 cm in height.

It is widespread from the Pyrenees to Belgium, as far east as Ukraine, and is found in many places in Hungary.
