Another brutal price hike at petrol stations on Friday: EUR 1.80/litre for petrol?
On Wednesday, 2 August, diesel prices increased by HUF 15, while petrol got HUF 12 more expensive. Unfortunately, there seems to be no end to the price hikes: on Friday, 4 August, fuel prices will skyrocket again. The wholesale price of petrol will be increased by HUF 5 gross, while petrol stations will have to pay HUF 15 gross more to wholesalers for diesel. Accordint to forecast, even a HUF 700 (EUR 1.80) fuel price in January cannot be ruled out.
As we reported a couple of days ago, today, fuel prices have performed a significant climb. From today, petrol costs HUF 622/l (EUR 1.61), while diesel costs HUF 613/l (EUR 1.59). Unfortunately, not for long. We have to get ready for another drastic price hike that will take place on Friday, 4 August.
On Friday, the wholesale price of petrol will be increased by HUF 5 gross, while petrol stations will have to pay HUF 15 gross more to wholesalers for diesel, holtankoljak.hu reports.
According to this, we can anticipate the following prices at petrol stations from Friday:
- 95 petrol: HUF 627/litre (EUR 1.62)
- diesel: HUF 628/litre (EUR 1.62)
As can be seen, after quite a while, diesel will cost more than petrol.
Eszter Bujdos, an expert at holtankoljak.hu, told RTL news that a significant price increase is expected from January. The main factors are the weakening forint and the increase in excise duties. Although the HUF 650 (EUR 1.68) fuel price has already been brought up (as we wrote HERE), Eszter Bujdos does not rule out the possibility that a litre of petrol will cost HUF 700 (EUR 1.80) in January, napi.hu writes.
