April Madness: a blanket of snow covers Hungary’s highest peak – Photos, VIDEO

A couple of weeks ago, it was 28 degrees Celsius in some parts of Hungary, but last night, snow fell on Kékestető, the country’s highest point (1014 m).

According to the weather site Időkép, Kékestető, a popular hiking destination, was “a winter wonderland on Sunday evening.”

The Hungarian peak was hit by heavy rainfall, and the thermometer read close to 0 degrees Celsius, creating a snow cover.

Met.hu said that the more continuous rainfall zone east of the Danube gradually moved northeastwards, while clouds also increased in the clear Transdanubian areas. Daytime highs will be between 9 and 15 degrees. By late evening, the air will cool down to between 4 and 9 degrees.

HungaroMet is reporting that several cyclones are swirling around us, which means that the coming days will see more wet and cool weather, while the weather will also be changeable. Forecasters are also saying that the second half of next week will see a clear warming trend.

In the afternoon, the precipitation system will leave the northeastern boundary, but showers may re-emerge in places behind it. The clouds will break up in the evening, and the showers will end.
