Attention! More toll roads, increasing vignette prices from January
Following the relevant decree, the gross price of various e-vignettes will rise from 1 January 2021. If you use motorways, expressways and main roads subject to toll payment, you should read this article to calculate your costs accordingly. Furthermore, many roads will become toll lanes from January in Hungary.
Vignette prices to rise
According to Helló Magyar, e-vignette prices will increase in Hungary from 1 January. Furthermore, the number of toll roads will also increase in the country. The latter occurs regularly each January. Based on the Decree No. 45/2020. (XI. 28.) of the Ministy for Innovation and Technology, we will have to pay on the following road segments from next year.
- M4 between Abony and Törökszentmiklós West
- M30 between Miskolc North and Tornyosnémeti (the segment around Miskolc will remain free)
- M76 between Balatonszentgyörgy and Keszthely-Fenékpuszta
- M85 between Sopron East and Sopron North.
The most important rule regarding these roads is that you cannot use them without buying a vignette. That means you have to obtain it before driving on the segment since there is only a 60-minute-long grace period. The start date of the vignette is always the day, hour and minute of the purchase.
Pursuant to Decree No. 45/2020. (XI. 28.) of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology, from this point onwards, if the consumer price index for August in the year preceding the subject year as published by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office increases relative to August of the year two years preceding the subject year, the price of e-vignettes will be adjusted at a rate corresponding to such increase, calculated with a HUF 10 rounding accuracy. In respect of 2021,
this represents a price change/price increase of 3.9%.
