Autumn break was heyday for Hungarian tourism
Tourism accommodations in Hungary hosted half a million guests over the autumn break, 16pc more than during last year’s holiday, the Hungarian Tourism Agency said on Thursday.
Those travellers spent close to 1.2 million guest nights at tourism accommodations between October 26 and November 3, 11pc more than a year earlier, bookings recorded by the National Tourism Data Service Centre (NTAK) show.
Over 250,000 foreign tourists visited Hungary during the period. Around 170,000 of those visitors spent over 400,000 guest nights in the capital. The rest spent about 280,000 guest nights at other destinations, such as the spa towns of Eger, Zalakaros, Gyula, HévÃz and Hajdúszoboszló.
The largest numbers of foreign visitors arrived from Czechia, Germany, Austria, Romania and the UK.
Revenue of tourism accommodations came to HUF 29bn during the break, up 24pc from last year’s school vacation. Revenue of accommodations in Budapest accounted for HUF 11.4bn of the total.
