Azerbaijani foreign minister awarded high state honour in Hungary
Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s foreign minister, presented the Order of Merit, Commander Cross, to his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session on Thursday.
President János Áder granted the high state honour to Mammadyarov in recognition of his merits in developing strategic partnership between the two countries.
Szijjártó said that Azerbaijan is a major player in the European Union’s Eastern Partnership program and Hungary’s policy of eastern opening. Its rapidly developing economy attracts foreign investment, and plays a key role in Europe’s energy security by contributing to the diversification of EU gas supply, he said.
Expressing thanks for the honour,
Mammadyarov praised close and high-level bilateral cooperation, and stressed the importance of the policy of Eastern Partnership for both sides.
