Bad news: Drastic increase in Budapest taxi fares
From 6 March, taxi fares in Budapest will increase by ten percent: the basic fare will rise from HUF 1,000 (EUR 2.57) to HUF 1,100 (EUR 2.83); the kilometre fare from HUF 400 (EUR 1) to HUF 440 (EUR 1.13); and the per-minute fare from HUF 100 (EUR 0.26) to HUF 110 (EUR 0.28), the Budapest City Assembly decided on Wednesday.
The amendment to the tax ordinance was unanimously adopted by the board with 18 votes in favour. The Fidesz-KDNP representatives in the capital did not vote, atv.hu reports.
The fee increase was justified by the fact that the abolition of the fuel price cap at the beginning of December 2022 will lead to a noticeable increase in costs for taxi drivers, MTI reports.
