Balkan capital back in Wizz Air’s network from Budapest: New routes and more weekly services

Wizz Air is expanding its Budapest operations in 2026, adding its 19th aircraft to the Hungarian base and relaunching the Budapest–Sofia route. The Hungarian low-cost carrier is also launching five new routes, including Greek, Spanish, and Bulgarian destinations, and increasing weekly flights on six existing routes, such as Antalya, Málaga, and Malta, giving travellers more options for summer trips across Europe.
Wizz Air will resume its Budapest–Sofia route on 3 July, operating four times a week between the Hungarian and Bulgarian capitals, AIRportal.hu reports. The airline’s CEO, József Váradi, announced the relaunch during a press briefing in Budapest on Friday morning.

Budapest base grows to 19 aircraft
As part of a wider expansion, Wizz Air will station its 19th aircraft at Budapest Airport in May, according to AIRportal.hu. The move coincides with the launch of five new routes exclusively offered by Wizz Air, alongside increased frequencies on six existing destinations.
New summer routes across Europe
From early June, passengers can fly directly from Budapest to Greek destinations, including Kefalonia and Kalamata, twice a week. Spanish holidaymakers can reach Menorca with three weekly flights, while Bulgaria’s Black Sea resort city Varna will be served twice weekly. Polish travellers will benefit from four weekly flights to Kraków starting in late April.

More flights to popular destinations
Existing routes are also seeing an upgrade in frequency. From Budapest, flights will increase to Antalya (six per week), Yerevan (three), Málaga (seven), Malta (seven), Târgu Mureș (seven), and Tallinn (four). These changes aim to accommodate rising demand for both leisure and business travel.
