Beautifully renovated yet traditional farmhouse for sale at Lake Balaton – PHOTOS
This beautiful farmhouse was voted the House of the Year in Veszprém County in 2000. Now, it is up for sale. Check out this cosy little traditional building.
As we can read in Mérmű Építész Stúdió (Mérmű Architect Studio)’s Facebook post, they designed this farmhouse, which is now looking for its new owner. It is a 10-minute bike ride from Lake Balaton, next to one of the most popular tourist sites in Hungary, Balatonfüred, but it is far enough from heavy traffic and mass tourism.

The indicative price of the 100-year-old thatched farmhouse – which can be found in the village of Aszófő – is HUF 175 million (EUR 494,000). According to the report of 24.hu, the building is on a plot of 616 square metres, with 70 square metres under a thatched roof and 50 square metres on the ground floor under a tiled roof,
complemented by a 15-square-metre attic gallery with scenic views of the Tihany Peninsula,
as well as a 10-square-metre cellar. In the garden, there is a 20-square-metre detached thatched building with two rooms and a small bathroom block.
The heating and hot water supply of the building is provided by a central gas boiler. Heating is provided by underfloor heating in the cold-tiled rooms and by radiators in the rooms with wood panelling. In addition, there is a tiled stove, a wood-burning stove, and a furnace. According to Mérmű Építész Stúdió, the building is in constant use, and the necessary periodic maintenance work has been carried out. In addition, a sprinkler system has been installed to maintain the spacious, well-kept garden, and the building is protected by an alarm system.
The shuttered, wooden insulated windows, the stacked stone perimeter wall, and the high quality of the architectural detailing take us back to the traditions of the Balaton Highlands.
As Mérmű Építész Stúdió wrote in their post, the real estate complex is free of liens, claims, and encumbrances, and the new owners can move in immediately after an agreement has been reached.

Marooned on a small traffic island! You’ve got to be kidding me! Cars driving in front and at the back! Only a nutcase would buy that house! Plus thatched roofs have a relatively short lifespan and are expensive to replace; they are also prone to fire so they make the building insurance very expensive.
The property is over built. I never buy houses which are too big for the lot to be pleasing to the eye. (Or houses which have the garage as the first thing you see when you turn off a public road into your own driveway. ) In this case you would have no quiet, no privacy to speak of & it is a crying shame. The house inside is lovely, would have been moved here in my province cus the municipality would have had to purchase the lot, lift & relocate the house at their expense to build a roadway like that which has proper views blocked at a cross road. I feel very bad for the owners. Hope drunk drivers don’t kill any of them.
Its a nice house, but not in the right place, on a corner, so traffic around the house from all sides,
so privacy is not guaranteed here.
