Hungarian hoop hero Bence Neuwirth touches Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary record

In a jaw-dropping display on Monday night, Bence Neuwirth of Debrecen unleashed a 100-point masterclass in the Hungarian university basketball championships, matching the immortal Wilt Chamberlain’s storied record.

Hosting the Eastern Group’s round 16 clash, league leaders Debrecen University demolished second-placed Eszterházy Károly Catholic University from Eger with a thumping 153-110 home victory, the Hungarian News Agency wrote.

According to the club’s website, Neuwirth erupted from the tip-off, firing in 17 of his side’s first 20 points in just three blistering minutes. Teammates, spotting his otherworldly shooting touch, fed him passes like confetti; by quarter’s end he had 35, and at half-time a scarcely believable 66.

When Debrecen cracked the 100-point barrier, Bence Neuwirth sat on 74. From there, it was relentless: he blasted past 80, then 90, with the crowd—and history—watching. The magic moment arrived with three minutes left, via a pair of free throws, sealing the game of his life and etching his name into basketball’s pantheon.

Fresh off graduating last week from Debrecen University’s Faculty of Economics with a degree in finance and accounting, the 100-point haul was legendary enough. But Neuwirth sweetened the deal with 20 three-pointers—an exploit as rare as hen’s teeth in the annals of the game, as DEAC’s website triumphantly notes.
