BKV introduces new innovation in Budapest public transport
The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) is innovating public transport in the Hungarian capital. From mid-August, BKK will be installing NFC-scannable stickers on its buses.
Innovation in public transport
The new validation method will be activated in the BudapestGO app after a sufficient number of routes have been equipped with it.
According to BKK, this will happen in two stages. The first step will be on the surface on the lines, then on the metro lines.
The new stickers will also include the usual QR code, so you can still validate tickets with your phone’s camera.
NFC on BKK
Validation with NFC (Near Field Communication) should be thought of as a touch payment, or payments with Google Wallet and Apple Pay. The new stickers will indicate where to touch the phone to validate, according to BKK.
BKK adds that digital tickets now account for 25 percent of ticket revenue.
In the next few weeks, nearly 30,000 new QR codes will be placed on BKK routes, napi.hu reports.
