Several deadly crashes happened on the last day of 2021 in Hungary, marring the coming of the new year with sorrow.
Bágyoszovát
A small van collided with the train at a railway crossing near Kóny in western Hungary, at the Bágyogszovát railway crossing, the spokesman of the Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurt Railway (GYSEV) told MTI.
Rázó László said that despite both the traffic lights and the descending gates, the driver of the vehicle attempted to cross the railway tracks where it collided with the passenger train coming from Győr and going to the direction of Sopron.
The driver of the van immediately lost his life, but fortunately, no personal injury occurred among the passengers of the train.
The spokesman also said that the train pushed the van in front of it for about 200 metres before coming to a stop and this has damaged the train tracks as well.
After the collision, the train traffic had been greatly hindered and the company used buses to transport the passengers between Csorna and Kóny stations.
