Brand new airline to start flights to Budapest this autumn!

Air Connect, the Romanian regional start-up airline, will launch flights to Budapest from Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca in mid-October, with two flights a week, according to the airline.

Air Connect will operate flights to Budapest from Bucharest Henri Coandă (Otopeni – OTP) and Cluj International Airport (Cluj – CLJ) from 15 October, the company said. Flights will operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. This is according to information available on the Romanian regional airline’s website, which is still in beta, airportal.hu writes.

Flights from Bucharest and Cluj to Budapest

The services are operated in the so-called W-shape: Bucharest – Budapest – Cluj – Budapest – Bucharest. On Tuesdays, the flight departs Bucharest at 9.00 AM local time and arrives in Budapest at 9.50 PM (KS 1201), before departing for Cluj-Napoca at 10.20 AM Hungarian time, where it lands at 12.35 PM local time(KS 2202). From Cluj-Napoca, the flight returns to the Hungarian capital at 1.05 PM, arriving at 1.20 PM (KS 2203) Hungarian time, before departing Ferihegy at 1.50 PM and arriving back in Bucharest at 4.40 PM (KS 1202).

The scheduled flight time between Budapest and Cluj-Napoca is 1 hour 15 minutes and between Budapest and Bucharest 1 hour 50 minutes. Flights on Saturdays will follow a similar schedule, but will depart and arrive 2 hours earlier.

The young airline

The airline currently operates one 8-year-old ATR 72-600 aircraft with 68 economy class seats on board. The start-up airline, created by five Romanian private investors, started operations in August 2022. It plans to operate domestic routes in Romania, as well as routes from the country’s regional airports to major airports in the surrounding area, and holiday flights.

As aviacionline.com reports, Romania’s newest airline just launched its first scheduled flights on Friday, 26 August. Bucharest-based AirConnect currently operates charter flights with a single ATR 72-600, with the first scheduled flight expected to take off on 15 October.
