BREAKING: New railway ticket and pass prices published in Hungary – LIST
The MÁV-Volán Group has launched an information page on the county and country season tickets and all the discounts that will come into force on 1 March. The system will be simpler, more understandable and more clear-cut than before.
On the ujtarfia.hu website launched by the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV), simple diagrams show who is entitled to what discount, the cost of each ticket, their validity and where to buy it. The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section also explains the changes with practical examples. (English HERE.)
Details of the new season ticket scheme are as follows:
- 2 season tickets: county and country (Hungary) pass;
- 2 24-hour daily tickets: Vármegye24 (HUF 999/EUR 2.57) and the Magyarország24 (HUF 4999/EUR 12.88);
- several types of seat reservation tickets;
- single tickets (vonaljegy) will be full fare, half fare or free;
- only two types of fares remain for season tickets: the full fare and the 90% discount fare. The latter is available to those who qualify for the discount, such as students who hold a valid Hungarian day or evening student card;
- A full-price, monthly adult country pass will cost HUF 18,900 (EUR 48.69).
- The Pest county season tickets, which are also valid on Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) services, will cost HUF 9450 (EUR 24.35) per month (HUF 945/EUR 2.44 for students).
More information can be found HERE.
According to a statement by MÁV, their new website also provides information on the fate of previously purchased tickets, how to request reimbursement of travel expenses from one’s employer, and what transitional rules will help ensure a smooth transition after 1 March.
Mutual agreement on passes
The Budapest Pass will remain, and the BKK will accept the Pest county pass, Telex writes. On 9 January, János Lázár, Minister of Construction and Transport, made an offer to the capital regarding the future of the Budapest Pass and the agglomeration agreement: within the administrative boundaries of Budapest, the Budapest Pass will be accepted on MÁV and Volán services, in exchange for BKK accepting the county and country passes. An agreement was reached by the end of the month.
