PHOTOS: Buda Castle becoming more beautiful than ever!

The facades around the Buda Castle’s illustrious Lions’ Court have not been cleaned for decades. Fortunately, the Nemzeti Hauszmann Program (National Hauszmann Programme) provides money and staff to do so. As a result, Hungary’s popular royal castle watching over Budapest from the castle hill will be more beautiful than ever.

According to the Facebook page of the National Hauszmann Program, they removed the contamination that formed a thick layer on the stones of the court’s main gate. They also shared some images to get a grasp of the difference. Check them out below:

They said their employees take special care of monument protection issues. As a result, they use solutions that do not harm any surfaces and do not pose any threat to our health or the environment.

Buda Castle’s Fountain of the Fishing Children will also be renewed

They are working on the annual restoration and reparation of the Fountain of the Fishing Children. The fountain is near the Habsburg Gate and the nearly nine-ton Turul statue.

The Habsburg Gate was designed by Alajos Hauszmann, the designer of the royal palace. Meanwhile, the fountain was completed in 1900 following the plans of Károly Senyei. We detailed their renovation in THIS article.

Now, the castle’s operator will cover it with a material that will protect it from UV radiation, and prevent algae growth and fungal coverage.

Several castle buildings being rebuilt

“The National Hauszmann Program was launched in February 2019 based on the government’s decision. The renewal of the Buda Castle Palace District is orchestrated by the Várkapitányság Nonprofit Plc. As it is now obvious to visitors, our developments have resulted in the rebirth of areas which have been returned to people after decades of ruination”, the program wrote in its strategy.

“Like Sleeping Beauty, the Buda Castle Palace District will awaken from its slumber during the coming decade. The restored squares and buildings of the Castle District evoke the golden age of this locality in the late 19th and early 20th century”, they added.

Among others, they are rebuilding Archduke Joseph’s Palace, the Hungarian Defence Forces’ headquarters. Meanwhile, they already completed the Royal Riding Hall and the Saint Stephen Hall.

Buda Castle suffered devastating damages during the Soviet siege of Budapest between December 1944 and February 1945. Instead of rebuilding its historic buildings, the Communist leadership of Hungary demolished several places.
