Important changes: New rules at Budapest Airport, fewer flights to China

Renovations on the traffic bridge at Budapest Airport have been completed, and the departure level has reopened to passenger vehicles as of August 8. The upgraded bridge now offers improved safety and long-term durability for traffic in front of the terminal. Meanwhile, China Southern Airlines has announced it will halve the number of flights between Guangzhou and Budapest this winter.
New traffic rules at Budapest Airport
The renovation included replacing the bridge’s waterproofing, reinforcing the structure, installing new drainage systems, and upgrading the barrier islands and low-voltage electrical systems, according to Index. Starting August 8, vehicles under 5 tons can once again use the departure level, where passengers can be dropped off along the curbside. The 100E airport shuttle bus will continue to arrive at the arrivals level, and tourist buses are directed to the Bus Terminal.
Beginning August 15, new regulations will also apply to the arrivals level: the area in front of the terminal will be reserved exclusively for BKK public transit buses, licensed taxis, NT-permit service providers, and official vehicles. All other vehicles must use the Terminal Parking lot, which allows one free 5-minute stop per day and is just a short walk from the terminal entrance.

For passengers with reduced mobility, designated parking spots on both the departure and arrival levels provide 20 minutes of free parking, while the Terminal Parking lot offers up to 60 minutes. Spacious elevators and dedicated assistance services inside Terminal 2 continue to operate without interruption.
China Southern to cut Budapest flights in half
While traffic operations at the airport are changing, China Southern Airlines will also reduce the frequency of its Guangzhou–Budapest flights starting in late October, according to AIRportal.hu. Instead of the current four weekly flights, the winter schedule will include just two–operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The CZ 649/650 flights, operated by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, are scheduled to depart Guangzhou at 1:30 AM local time and arrive in Budapest at 7:10 AM. The return flight leaves Budapest at 11:45 AM and lands in the Chinese city at 5:50 AM the following day.
China Southern restarted its Budapest service at the end of June this year. Last winter, the airline operated flights between the two cities four times a week.
