Budapest Airport introduces new flight tracking application
Budapest Airport has launched a new noise monitoring and flight tracking system from 1 October. A new website which provides information on air traffic movements occurring in the vicinity of the airport and their noise impacts in a transparent manner, in near real time, free of charge, is now available to all. Budapest Airport completed the renewal of the system and the required IT development using its own resources, in cooperation with HungaroControl, following consultations with the Ministry for Innovation and Technology and the Institute for Transport Sciences.
After the necessary procurements, planning and testing, Budapest Airport installed its new noise monitoring system into operation this fall, whereby it measures environmental noise impacts around the airport at six fixed locations continuously, with certified, state-of-the-art instruments. The airport operator makes the data measured by this special system available to all.
Thanks to a freely accessible website, arriving and departing traffic at Ferenc Liszt International Airport can be tracked on a continuous basis, and information is also provided on environmental noise impacts measured in the vicinity of the airport.
Users can receive a precise, animated picture of the most important data (e.g. ID number, altitude, speed, type, etc.) of all aircraft in the air, within 60 kilometers of the airport. Moreover, they can also see the distance between their own location and the aircraft.
The interface, which can be opened in a browser, but is also optimized for mobile phones, is user-friendly and simple to use, making flight and noise measurement data easy to interpret. The web-based application is available at https://www.bud.hu/bud_jaratkoveto_es_zajmonitor_alkalmazas.
“Over the past year, Budapest Airport implemented developments of more than 100 million euros, paying special attention to various infrastructural projects and community schemes that are important for nearby residents,” said Dr. Rolf Schnitzler, the CEO of Budapest Airport Zrt. “We are committed to good neighborly relations. Over the past years, we fitted noise insulation on several thousand nearby properties, on a voluntary basis.
This latest development primarily favors residents living in the vicinity of the airport as well,” he added.
Noise measurements were already carried out around the airport in accordance with applicable regulations previously, but now, in line with the needs of nearby residents, a more user-friendly and transparent noise monitoring and flight tracking system is available to experts and residents, in near real time.
Information on aircraft movements is provided for the noise monitoring system by the terminal approach radars operated by HungaroControl. As part of the development, experts also reviewed the locations of the fixed measuring stations, and, following coordination with the competent municipalities, Budapest Airport also replaced the measuring instruments, as and where necessary. Thus, data is now recorded using the latest technology. The contractor commissioned by Budapest Airport implemented the development with the involvement of the affected municipalities, following consultations with the Ministry for Innovation and Technology and the Institute for Transport Sciences.
