Budapest Airport ready to serve millions of passengers this summer with new services

After the rainy spring, summer is finally here and with it, the holiday season and the long-awaited vacations. If you are looking to unwind abroad, Ferenc Liszt International Airport offers direct flights to 130 cities. This year’s schedule also includes new, long-awaited destinations such as the holiday paradise of Faro, Valencia and Skiathos, or Guangzhou and Xi’an, where you can not only immerse yourself in Chinese culture, but also find excellent connections to other parts of Asia and New Zealand. This year, Budapest Airport has again put together a compilation to make your stay at the airport more seamless, so that the holiday experience starts at the airport.

Hotels, parking, pay machines at Budapest Airport

Arrive at the airport at least two and a half hours before the departure of your flight. This will leave enough time to check in your baggage, go through security screening and get in the mood for your journey at the terminal. With up to 60,000 passengers passing through the terminal on an average summer day, we recommend that passengers enter the terminal unaccompanied, to avoid congestion, bud.hu wrote.

Check-in and book your parking online, from the comfort of your home, saving time and money, avoiding queues at the airport and securing your parking space near the terminals. Passengers can keep their vehicles safe in the airport car parks during their summer holidays and can now also use the new Terminal Parking located between Terminal 2 and the ibis Styles Budapest Airport Hotel, which has added 586 spaces for cars, while Bus Parking offers and 8 spaces for coaches.

The new car park also houses a customer service office, where Budapest Airport staff are on hand to help with any queries. Thanks to the modernization of the entire parking system, passengers can use the airport car parks even more conveniently and seamlessly. New pay machines have been installed, with special attention paid to making them easily accessible for passengers with reduced mobility, and credit card payment has been made available for all of them. A modern license plate recognition system has been installed, allowing passengers to exit the car park easily, without having to insert the ticket. As part of the overall modernization of the system, the company replaced 65 entrance and exit lane systems and barriers, 34 pay stations and 3 manual cash desks.

Baggage claim

Self-service baggage drop-off further speeds up airport processes. If you are traveling with hold baggage and your airline enables it, you can use one of the 36 kiosks. Print your bag tag yourself quickly and easily, and then simply place your bag on the designated baggage carousel. Staff are happy to help you through the process, if necessary.

If you are traveling with hand baggage only and have checked in beforehand, there is nothing else for you to do. Enter the terminal at the main entrance near the 100E bus stop and go directly to security screening, helping to avoid congestion in the departure hall. On the queuing display monitors placed in the terminals, you can check whether you can pass through security faster on the 2A or 2B side, and you can even check this in advance on Budapest Airport’s website. Remember, you no longer need to take your electronic devices out of your bag during security screening and you can use the Fast Track Lane to pass through the screening process without waiting.

In order to reach your flight safely, please allow time for passport control for non-Schengen flights, which will take place after security screening, on the 2B side.

Budapest Airport ensures that you can freshen up before departure; bring your own water bottle, which you can fill up with fresh, clean drinking water at any of the 13 drinking fountains after security screening.

Nursing rooms and gastro experience

The airport also makes traveling easier for families with young children. Budapest Airport provides free strollers at the terminals, which can be used after security screening, until boarding. For children, there are five nursing rooms in the transit area, with changing facilities, armchairs and a microwave oven. There are also three refurbished play areas to keep the little ones entertained: a fairytale forest-themed playground on Pier B, a play area inspired by gastronomic caravans in the SkyCourt and a mini airport on Pier 1.

Budapest Airport also thinks of dog owners: a dog park has been opened near Terminal 2, next to City Break Parking. In the fenced area, pets have access to a drinking fountain and are entertained by a variety of outdoor equipment, while their owners can enjoy the view of aircraft taking off and landing from the comfortable benches provided.

For those who prefer a quiet retreat or need to have a meeting before boarding, there are four soundproofed quiet boxes at the airport, each seating two people.

Avid readers can use dedicated reading corners on Pier 1 and Pier B, with comfortable armchairs and books are available free of charge during their time at the airport. Musically inclined travelers can show off their talents on the pianos placed in these halls, or can enjoy the playing of their fellow passengers.

Three terraces

At the airport, you can also enjoy your waiting time in the open air on three terraces. The newest of these is the observation and smoking terrace opened in Terminal 2B, featuring benches with induction chargers and USB ports and greenery to make the environment even more pleasant.

In addition to terminal information staff, information kiosks now also help passengers find their way around the airport, and tactile lanes are also available on the landside for visually impaired passengers, in addition to the dedicated application. The number of baggage trolleys has also been increased, with 300 additional trolleys available for passengers to use, including in the car parks.

To further improve airport services, Budapest Airport has installed an on-site satisfaction measurement system, which allows passengers to evaluate specific processes and developments.

At the airport, you will find a wide range of shops with unique and high-quality products, where you can choose from souvenirs, perfumes and fashion items. Stop off at one of the airport’s food and beverage outlets or exclusive lounges, or enjoy a delicious coffee.
