Budapest is Europe’s second-safest destination for women
A travel site surveyed more than 200 major cities worldwide to determine the 30 safest for female travellers. In their ranking, Budapest is considered the second safest destination for women in Europe.
24 percent of women have cancelled a trip over safety concerns
According to Time Out, women find themselves having to think long and hard about whether it will be safe for them to travel alone to a certain destination. The travel site WayAway found that 24 percent of women have cancelled a trip over safety concerns. To help women in their decision making, WayAway has studied over 200 cities around the world. They have compiled a list of the the top 30 safest cities around the world for female travellers.
Budapest is the second safest city for women
Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, took first place on the list. San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico, came in second place. Budapest, the Hungarian capital, won the honorable third place. However, the Hungarian capital ranked first in the European Union. Among the EU cities, Madrid was also in the top 30 (5th place). Munich (8th place), Berlin (10th place), Vienna (16th place), Barcelona (18th place) and Prague (29th place) also got a place on the list, writes Index.
There is a moral case for making female travellers feel safe
WayAway’s Head of PR and Communications, Janis Dzenis emphasised the importance of making women feel safe when travelling. ‘Not only though is there a moral case for making female travellers feel safe, there’s an economic one too – destinations and travel providers who can give female travellers safety assurances will be able to increase their sales and loyalty from an audience that makes up…well half the world!’, he said.

So, why is it that I don’t feel safe at all, especially after dusk, and especially around Nyugati (and the other transport hubs).
I can tell you, that I feel a hundred times safer in Singapore that at home.
