Talks on developing Budapest’s iconic Metro line 1 start

The local council of Budapest has cleared public transport company BKV to start talks on credit to make the number 2 metro line wheelchair accessible and replace trains on the number 1 line, BKV said on Thursday.
The talks could start with the Hungarian Development Bank (MFB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). BKV puts the price of making number 2 line stations wheelchair accessible, while also undertaking energy efficiency improvements, around HUF 21 billion (EUR 52.5 million). It estimates a price of HUF 45 billion (EUR 112.5 million) to replace the number 1 line trains.
BKV noted that trains on the number 1 line were more than 50 years old. It added that just three of the eleven stations on the number 2 metro line were accessible to people living with disabilities.
