Budapest to host Europe’s top figure skaters next week
Budapest, January 9 (MTI) – Budapest will host this year’s European Figure Skating Championships from Jan. 15 to 19, the organisers told a news conference today.
The field will feature top skaters from 35 countries. The competitions will be covered by television stations from 13 nations and 200 journalists, mostly from Russia and Hungary.
Lajos Kosa, head of the Hungarian Skating Federation and senior official of ruling Fidesz, called it a “great challenge” to organise the figure skating championships after a ten-year interval. What is more, the European championships will be the last test prior to the Sochi Winter Olympics.
The competitions will be held in the Syma Sports Hall, which has a capacity for 7,000 spectators.
Budapest is hosting the championships for the seventh time.
