Budapest’s 150th birthday: Mystery discovery routes in the capital
On the occasion of Budapest’s 150th birthday, there are 20 themed routes around the capital, which will give you a better insight into Budapest.
The aim of the Budapest Bejáró (Budapest Explorer) is to present the capital’s built heritage and local history to everyone interested, Impress Magazin reports.
What is Budapest Bejáró?
According to its official website, Budapest Bejáró is a city exploration game. Anyone who wants to really get to know their home city, the capital, which is 150 years old this year, can play.
The thematic walks aim to showcase the different parts of the city through the designation of cultural and architectural heritage points to mark the 150th anniversary of the unification of the capital, Impress Magazin explains.
Where to start?
The starting point of the walks is always a key location or a transport hub, provided by BKK (Budapest Transport Centre) and media company JCDecaux. The stops have been chosen by the members of the Hungarian Walking Association (Magyar Sétaszövetség), based on their professional experience and knowledge of the city.
On the themed walks you can follow kings and stars, loves and gossip in Pest and Buda, and even find Budapest’s animal statues. You can discover the capital’s contemporary buildings and sculptures, but you can also take a guided tour of the capital’s transport, its sacred places, its secret flower gardens or the Danube.
Budapest Bejáró workbook
Discovering the beauty of the capital is made even more interesting by the complemetary workbook. You can download it from budapestbejaro.hu, but you can also pick it up at the BKK Customer Centres, at the game’s base points at Deák Ferenc Square, Széll Kálmán Square, Keleti railway station, Szentlélek Square and Kelenföld.
The printed booklet contains simple graphics, diagrams, drawings and sketches to help you understand the puzzle and, in many cases, to help you solve it. The clue is a word or number needed to solve the game corresponding to the collection point.
The itineraries for exploring the city can be found at www.budapestbejaro.hu.
