Bullied at school, planned to kill classmates: juvenile to be imprisoned in Hungary

The Miskolc Regional Court has sentenced a juvenile to 1 year and 10 months in prison and a two-year ban from public affairs for preparing to commit murder after planning to kill schoolmates who had mocked him.

Juvenile wanted to murder classmates

According to the statement, the defendant was a pupil at a primary school in Borsod county, where he was regularly teased and humiliated by classmates, which caused him severe emotional distress. Two years ago, the boy brought a knife to school intending to take revenge by killing them.

During one lesson, he took out the knife and ran the blade along his tongue. The teacher confiscated it and handed it to the headteacher, who then notified the boy’s mother. She collected her child and took him home.

Following the incident, the student did not return to school after being instructed by the headteacher to stay away. Two days later, he sent an online message to his form teacher admitting that he had brought the knife with the intention of killing his classmates. The next day, he posted online that everyone in his neighbourhood would “pay” for what he had suffered.

According to the press release, the boy also wrote to the teacher that he would go to school the following day and kill all his classmates. The teacher alerted the headteacher, and a police report was filed.

When passing sentence, the court considered as aggravating factors the defendant’s persistent behaviour reflecting a determined intent, the fact that the threats targeted students, and that the case disturbed public peace within the school and the wider community.

Mitigating factors included his partial confession, genuine remorse, the prior school bullying he had suffered, his health condition, and the time that had passed since the offence.

The Miskolci Járásbíróság has banned a doctor from practising for five years after he breached professional rules during a procedure that led to a patient’s death, the Miskolci Törvényszék announced on Monday.

According to the statement, the deceased patient visited the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén Vármegyei Központi Kórház in July 2023 with bleeding complaints. Although admitted to a ward, he left a few hours later against medical advice. As his symptoms persisted, two days later he attended the defendant’s private gastroenterology clinic, where the specialist recommended a medically justified invasive examination.

During the procedure, complications arose. Despite repeated warnings from another doctor assisting and from medical staff, the physician did not stop but continued the examination. His professional negligence caused the patient’s condition to deteriorate. The patient was taken to hospital by ambulance, but despite surgery, his life could not be saved.

In addition to the professional ban, the court sentenced the defendant to one year’s imprisonment, suspended for two years, and imposed a fine of one million forints for negligent endangerment committed in the course of his profession. Mitigating factors included his clean criminal record and advanced age, while aggravating factors included multiple breaches of professional rules.
