Can you guess which Hungarian city is the happiest?

The Faculty of Education and Psychology at Eötvös Lóránd University together with the Jobb Veled a Világ (The World is Better With You) non-profit organisation have conducted a survey of which is the happiest city, county and overall happiest region in Hungary during the 2020-2021 period.

According to Magyar Hang, although it has been a tough year for all the world, Hungary relatively managed to safeguard their happiness and despite critical events, the overall happiness of most regions remained the same. Eötvös Lóránd University with the leadership of Attila Oláh and the Jobb Veled a Világ non-profit organisation with the organisation’s leader Bella Bagdi, have compiled the data of their survey for March 20th, the International Day of Happiness, and announced the happiest of the Hungarian cities, regions and counties.

According to their survey from April 1st 2020 to March 15th 2021, the happiest city is Szombathely, the county seat of Vas county.

The makers of this map have highlighted, however, that this year’s map shows the happiness of Hungary stricken by the coronavirus global pandemic. If you would like to know which is Hungary’s most wealthy settlement, click HERE.

According to their finds, the distribution of happiness has fluctuated, but looking at the maps overall it seems to have been balanced. While the level of happiness have risen in counties such as Bács-Kiskun, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Vas counties. As mentioned before, the happiest county seat was Szombathely, but the second place goes to the opposite side of Hungary, Nyíregyháza. While according to the survey, happiness significantly rose in Budapest, it has decreased in Győr and Debrecen, Magyar Hang says.

The report also examined overall happiness according to sex and age. They have found that

women’s overall happiness is significantly higher than men’s, but they have found that this data more or less remained unchanged since 2019.

There are also some interesting and even some worrying changes, however. People’s happiness between the ages of 36-50 has greatly increased but worryingly, age groups over 65 and between 18-25 have shown substantial negative changes.

Just as worrying is the fact that people who have finished elementary and/or high school have a lower happiness index than before.

It seems like Hungary have somewhat endured the pandemic, but it still had some effect on people’s health of mind and soul.

  1. Oh! What a travesty Szombathely Vas county!
This county returned the highest Fidesz vote for the whole of Hungary (92%) – comfortable Fidesz at prayer. So-called Christians with all the wealth and all of Orban’s largesse – not to mention his faithful oligarchs’ – and concomitant corruy.
Yes all sitting pretty in Szombathely?
This doesn’t bode well for the elections in 2022
